The short version

Two services in our directory do the work in Glasgow itself. Classic Video is a city-centre shop that handles both video tapes and cine film. Totally Content is a one-person local service for VHS and MiniDV that meets you at a handover point in Glasgow and doesn't take post. If you'd rather post your tapes, there are UK-wide postal services, including Atac Digital in Edinburgh.

Comparing the prices fairly

The two local services price in different units, so the cheaper one depends on what you have. Classic Video charges £15 per hour of footage, so a long tape costs more than a short one. Totally Content charges £15 per item for 1 to 10 items, falling to £10 each for 51 or more, whatever the length. A free download link is included, and a USB stick is £10. For a few short camcorder tapes the totals may be similar. For a box of full three-hour VHS tapes, a per-item price usually works out cheaper than a per-hour one, but check the exact figures with both before you decide.

Cine film in Glasgow

Of the two, only Classic Video lists cine film. It covers 8mm, Super 8, 9.5mm and 16mm, with sound or silent, and says all transfers are done on site. It doesn't publish cine prices online, so ask for a quote per reel or per foot and compare it with the published prices in our cine film price guide. Cine Conversions (Excelsior) near Gatwick runs a UK-wide mail-order service and has a page for Glasgow customers. It publishes 8mm prices of £10 for 50ft, £32 for 200ft and £64 for 400ft.

If you'd rather post your tapes

Closest in our directory is Atac Digital in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, which accepts post. It charges £25 for the first tape to USB and £15 for each extra tape, with a typical 7 to 10 day turnaround. These postal services publish the lowest per-tape headline prices in our directory. Postage, USB sticks and order fees can add to the total, so read each provider page:
